Software ii) Hardware iii) Firmware
b.
Which one is the device
that is the ‘brain’ of a computer system?
i)
CPU ii) Motherboard iii)
Scanner

i)
Program ii) Data iii) Icon
Q2. Fill in the blanks:-
a. Computers have …ZERO…..IQ.
b. …Supercomputer..is
the most powerful computer.
c. Data are the raw facts from which information are derived.
d. ALU stands for…Arithmetic logic Unit.
e. The processed and meaningful form of data is
called
Information
f. ICT and SmartTV are the example of
convergence of
technology.
g. PDA stands for Personal digital assistant.
h. ALU stands for Arithmetic Logic Unit.
i. Registers
offer very fast memory but limited in size.
j. ICT
stands for Information and
Communication Technology .
Q3. Differentiate
between RAM and ROM?
|
RAM
|
ROM |
|
Random Access memory |
Read only memory |
|
RAM allows the
computer to read data quickly to run applications. |
ROM stores the program
required to initially boot or reboot the computer. |
|
It allows reading and
writing. |
It only allows
reading. |
|
RAM is volatile i.e.
its contents are lost when the device is powered off. |
It is non-volatile
i.e. its contents are retained even when the device is powered off. |
Q4. What is the function of memory? What are its measuring units?
Ans The memory that
holds data and instructions during processing. It
is temporary
memory. While secondary memory can store data or
files for
later use i.e. permanently. Bit, byte, kb, mb, gb etc. are
its measuring
units.
Q5. What do you understand by Formatting?
Answer: Formatting
means changes or editing the document.
There
are different types of formatting available in MS Word like Text formatting,
Character formatting, page formatting etc.
Q6 What are margins? How many types of margins can
be defined in a MS Word
document?
Answer: A
margin is the space between the text and an edge of our document.
There
are four types of margins: left, right, top and bottom.
Q7. What is meant by Alignment? Name the different
types of alignments.
Answer:
Alignment means align the text in the document. There are different types of
alignments like left, right, center and justify alignments.
Q8. What is the use of Header and Footer?
Answer:
Header is place at the top and Footer is place at the bottom of the
document. Header and Footer is
used to write the title, date, name, page
number on the document.
Q9. Explain the
following terms-
a.
CPU- The CPU is also called the microprocessor or simply the
processor. CPU controls and
directs the internal activities and actions of a computer. A CPU does the
entire thinking and controlling in a processing action. All other parts of a
computer work as directed by the CPU.
b.
ALU- This unit performs the arithmetic operations i.e. addition,
subtraction, multiplication and
division. All logic operations
which involves comparisons such as less than, greater than, or
equal to.
Q10. Write a short
note:-
Supercomputers- are the most
powerful computers among digital computers. These consist of several processors
running together thereby making them immensely faster and powerful. These
computers are capable of handling huge amounts of calculations that are beyond
human capabilities. Supercomputers can perform billions of instructions per
second. These are mainly used in applications like weather forecasting, nuclear
science research, aerodynamic modeling, seismology, metrology etc. Ex- Cray
x-mp-14, Param, Pace.
